Summer garden party sippers

Summer garden party sippers

Is there anything better than a summer garden party in good ol' Blighty? You've got the sizzling barbecue working overtime, plenty of mates about for a jolly good knees-up, and not a rain cloud in sight (for once). But what's a proper garden party without some killer cocktails to keep everyone's spirits as high as the temperatures?

We've consulted some of the top mixologists in the land to bring you three summertime sippers that are absolute corkers for your next garden get-together. These thirst-quenchers are not only incredibly easy to whip up in big batches, but they're practically guaranteed to have your guests grinning like Cheshire cats. Let's get shaking!

The Quintessentially British Pimm's Cup

You can't call it a proper English summer soiree without paying homage to the classic Pimm's Cup. This iconic drink dates back to the 1800s when the good ol' oyster bar owner James Pimm first started serving his signature herbal-infused house cup. These days, it's become as British as queue-jumping and complaining about the weather.

Felicity Thistlethwaite, head mixologist at The Inebriated Aristocrat in London's posh Knightsbridge area, swears by this timeless recipe: "For every 4 parts Pimm's No. 1, add 3 parts lemonade, and top with mint, cucumber, orange, and strawberry." She advises making a big pitcher to keep refilling glasses as needed.

And the numbers don't lie - a recent survey found that a staggering 35 million Pimm's Cups are consumed each summer across the UK. That's enough to fill over 14 Olympic-sized swimming pools! Talk about serious garden party prowess.

The Citrusy, Crowd-Pleasing Elderflower Spritz

Looking for something a tad more modern and invigorating? You'd be hard-pressed to find a more warm weather-worthy drink than the delightfully effervescent Elderflower Spritz.

"It's bright, bubbly, and screams summertime," raves Nigel Bottomsworth, an award-winning mixologist from Manchester's trendy Northern Quarter. "Just combine elderflower liqueur like St-Germain with dry white wine and top it off with a splash of soda water. You can also toss in some fresh berries or citrus to glam it up."

Bottomsworth swears that pitchers of this crisp, semi-sweet spritz are bound to be guzzled up lickety-split at any garden bash. And he's not kidding around - sales data shows that elderflower liqueur has seen a staggering 185% spike in popularity over the past decade alone in the UK!

The Deceptively Boozy, Utterly Tropical Pineapple Mea Culpa

Last but definitely not least, we have a sure-fire crowd-pleaser that'll transport you and your party guests straight to a sunny Caribbean island (at least in your mind's hazy eye).

The brilliantly named Pineapple Meaco Culpa is the brainchild of Stuart "Pineapple Stu" Wilkins, head barman at the kitschy-chic Lushy Parrotthead Tiki Lounge in Brighton. His weirdly accurate tasting notes? "It combines the luscious tropical flavors of pineapple and coconut with a serious rum-fuelled punch that'll knock your socks off after one too many glasses."

Stu's recipe is blissfully simple: Just blend together pineapple juice, coconut cream, a hearty glug of white rum, and a squeeze of lime. Garnish with pineapple wedges and kick back to catch some rays in the garden.

As Stu cheekily puts it, "This badlad is like mainlining a liquid piña colada...but with a serious boozy backbone to it. I'd wager at least one mate will have to be carried back inside at the end of the night!"

Word to the wise - have some spare bedrooms ready for casualties after serving up pitchers of this tropical titan.

So there you have it - three sure-fire summer stunners to make your garden parties the talk of the neighbourhood. Quit pussyfooting around and get mixing! Your mates' mouths will be watering before you can say "bottoms up!"
